Veer goes big in final week

Our Under 11s played their last week of group games at the annual Bingham Indoor Tournament last Sunday and notched up a couple of milestones in an eventful afternoon of cricket!

The Bingham tournament is a 6-a-side competition, using the conventional 'When you're out, you're out' format (as opposed to the pairs cricket at Basford which we also take part in during the winter). 8 teams take part in the round robin league competition with the top 4 competing at finals day.

Our squad had already played 6 matches, winning only 1, but they saved the best 'til last, with two wins against Ellerslie and Keyworth.

Batting first against Ellerslie, Bingham reached 97 for 4 off their 7 overs, with Veer unbeaten on 39 and Hamish also not out on 23.

Ellerslie could never quite match the run rate and Taylor clean bowled 3 players to help the team limit their opponents to 78/5. A smart piece of keeping from Isaac off the bowling of Tilly was another feature of the Bingham display, Isaac has grown in confidence behind the stumps despite never doing it before the competition.

Game 2 against Keyworth saw Bingham record a huge 147/4, their highest score ever in the tournament with Veer completing a personal milestone in reaching a half century, and finishing unbeaten on 58*. Isaac also finished unbeaten on 27.

In reply, Tilly and Gabby took wickets with run-outs from Hamish and Veer from direct throws to bowl Keyworth out for 35.

Bingham finish on a record of W3 L5 and a third successive finals day looks unlikely with 3 weeks of matches left. Well done to the squad for growing as a team throughout their 4 weeks of games.
